Condition of items
All items must be in good saleable condition.
Below is a guide to help rate the condition:
- New – Brand new, (never used) - often item is still in original packaging or with tags still on
- As New – Used but in excellent condition with no visible signs of wear
- Good – Used but in good condition with minimal signs of wear
When rating the condition, please be honest, you want the buyer to be happy!
Uploading photo
Photo files must be JPG format, should be approx. 800 x 600 pixels (low resolution) and file size 100kb.
Please ensure the rotation is correct before loading on to the site. Up to 4 photos can be included with your ad. Including photos with your ads can greatly increase your chances of making a sale. If you have trouble uploading photos, please email support@nappyvalley.co.uk.
Arranging to meet
When meeting a Buyer or Seller contacted through Nappy Valley, we recommend you choose a popular local meeting spot during daylight hours. If this is not possible and the meeting is at the Seller’s home, we advise you to let someone know where you are, or better still take someone with you.
No legal comeback
Once you have bought an item from a Seller, you have no legal comeback if it turns out to be faulty. Therefore, check the goods thoroughly before handing over the money. If the Seller still has the receipts, or a warranty, so much the better.
Be wary of fraudsters
There are some dodgy people out there, and despite our best efforts to keep them at bay, occasionally a fraudulent buyer will slip through the net.
Tips for recognising a fraudulent buyer:
- They will use unusual turn of phrase, broken English or language that has been translated literally and therefore does not make sense.
- They may ask for the “final asking price” or “last price”. Nappy Valley does not operate like this. The price is already stated in the ad and is up to sellers to make an offer if this option has been selected.
- They may ask for the “present condition” of the item for sale. Nappy Valley requires sellers to choose the state of the item from a list when they place an ad, so it strange to be asked again in an email!
- They may ask for your full name, address and telephone numbers. This is unnecessary for an initial response to an ad so should immediately rouse suspicion!
- They will predominantly be male, of overseas origin and often have a hotmail or yahoo email address with numbers in it.
Our experience has shown that in general, replies to ads are from UK based mums who firstly want to know if the item is still for sale. If a “Mr Justin Jones” who is overseas on business, wants to buy “maternity clothes”, be very suspicious!
Cheque over-payment scams
Fraudsters preying on sellers new to online classified ads sites will often try a cheque over-payment scam. They will respond to an ad, offering to pay with a cheque. At the last minute, they come up with a reason for writing the cheque for more than the purchase price, and ask you to transfer back the difference after you deposit the cheque.
If you deposit the cheque, you lose. Typically, the cheques are counterfeit, but they're good enough to fool bank staff - when they bounce, you are liable for the entire amount.
Don't accept a cheque for more than your selling price, no matter how tempting the plea or convincing the story. Ask the buyer to write the cheque for the purchase price. If the buyer sends the incorrect amount, return the cheque. Don't send the goods.
An example:
Thanks for the mail, i will want you to know that i am okay with the price of the buggy (£100) and the condition terms are okay by me. I will want you to give me the following details as soon as we seal this transaction from your end. (Full name on cheque, Contact address and phone numbers).
I will be out of the country very soon on a Business trip and my shippers would be in charge of my goods. To make the transaction faster and easier, I will instruct a client of mine who is owing me the sum of £2,800 in the UK to issue the cheque to you on my behalf, but i do not know if i can trust you by helping me to send the rest of my money to the shipping company through western union money transfer(when the cheque is cleared) so they can come for the pick up as it is to be shipped together with my consignments in the UK
I want you to know that the money that would be sent to the shippers is not meant for its shipment only but together with my other consignments in the uk
Please mail me the details asked if this is clear to you so i can instruct my client to send you the cheque immediately. Thanks for your understanding.
Regards
Phillip

Hope to hear from you soon.
NB: I will wait for the cheque to clear before pick up. I want you to consider the item sold and i will compesate you with £50 for you to remove the advert from the site.
